Holiday Edition

As the end of 2006 approaches, we would like to share some of [TC]²’s accomplishments in this last newsletter of the year.  We have remained focused on reviewing technology and industry trends, and sharing this information with our readers.

One of the most significant events during 2006 was the re-establishment of the [TC]² Student Intern Program, with ten U.S. university students participating this past summer. Of these ten interns, one has accepted an internship with a leading supplier of software and CAD/CAM equipment, and another is now employed at a major apparel brand manufacturer.

In addition to this milestone, other 2006 accomplishments include:

  • Sales of the NX-12 3D body scanning system continue to be strong. This year’s scanner site additions include a U.S. Coast Guard facility, a second Brooks Brothers installation in Short Hills, New Jersey, a supplier of custom uniforms for Marine Corps officers, and with Bodymetrics at Harrods of London (custom designer suits).  Our largest customer, Benchmark Clothiers, made great progress and is now actively rolling out its network of scanners for custom men’s suits.

  • [TC]² scanned athletes at swim championship events in the US and the UK to help Speedo update sizing and grading information on its performance swimwear lines.

  • The next-generation dressing-room size scanner, the NX-16, was previewed at the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association Sports + Technology event in San Diego, CA.  The NX-16 will be commercially available the first quarter of 2007.  Initial interest is very high in this new model especially since the largest obstacle for scanner deployments is the space required for the scanner.

  • A second SizeUSA User’s Group Meeting, was held in June. Data users discussed applications of the SizeUSA data for shape analysis in intimate apparel, the hosiery market, and for other custom garments.

  • Several proprietary shape analysis studies utilizing SizeUSA data have been conducted for various brands, and [TC]² continues to research new analysis tools for apparel and physical fitness applications.

  • [TC]² participated in or co-sponsored a number of industry events including The Apparel Conference of the Americas in Nicaragua, The Apparel Sourcing Show in Guatemala, Colombiatex in Medellin, Colombia, the Cotton Forum in Mexico, MAGIC, Material World, and the Apparel Tech Conference.

  • Techexchange.com remains a resource for technology news and articles of interest to the industry.  It is read in 146 countries around the world.

  • [TC]² presented six Fast Fashion seminars and several customized classes for the National Industries for the Blind (NIB) and the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped (NISH) in Quality Management and Lean Manufacturing.

  • [TC]² continues to serve the industry by providing training and operations consulting services, primarily focused on lean manufacturing concepts, domestically and internationally.  Projects for U.S.-based companies include: Bella Materna, Bemis, Brooks Brothers, Cotton Incorporated, Cotton Council International, Fessler USA, Karla Colletto, Liz Claiborne, Milliken, New Generation Computing, Nike, State of North Carolina, and Teamwork Athletic Apparel.

  • To provide services to help improve the efficiency of the U.S. supply chain, [TC]² has worked with international clients including:  Ametex, Bamex, CI INDEX, Fabrilmalla, Fibran, and SENA.  These clients represent the following countries:  Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

  • During the past year, six member companies and seven associate member companies have been added to [TC]²’s rolls.

  •  [TC]²’s bi-weekly newsletter, The Technology Communicator, has broadened its readership, keeping subscribers informed on relevant technologies and industry events.

  • The Demonstration Center has added new technology with the installation of a Brother t-shirt printer, the Visuality software tool, Magnal FACTS, and other software updates from several associate members. Lectra’s Kaledo Style apparel design software and Optitex's 3D Runway and full suite of apparel production solutions have been supplied to the computer classroom for training purposes.

As you look back on 2006, we hope that you also have many accomplishments to reflect upon.   And, as we enter into this holiday season, let us hope for a peaceful resolution to world conflicts and a better quality of life for individuals everywhere.

Thank you for your continued support of our programs and services.
