As 2009 comes to an end, we wanted to use this last newsletter of the year to share some of [TC]²’s important accomplishments. Our goal is to continue to investigate technologies and industry trends, and to share the information with our readers.
Some of the major accomplishments for 2009 include:
One hundred active installations of the NX-16 3D body scanning system. In addition to new installations, many earlier generation scanners have been replaced with the newest scanner technology. The NX-16 is being adopted not only for shape analysis for garment selection and apparel development, but also for health/medical, fitness management, anthropometric surveys, and a variety of research applications.
The launch of a virtual fashion application with the creation of personal avatars. The avatars have improved with the addition of a photo-facial component. Online avatar and weight loss visualization application launched at imagetwin.com, leading to online virtual fashion applications, is coming in 2010.
The fifth annual SizeUSA User’s Group Meeting presented in an online format, allowing more individuals to participate. Webinar presentations focused on research projects underway at a number of universities, and how the SizeUSA data can be used in a classroom setting. [TC]² presented its avatar creation and virtual fashion applications. Presentations can be reviewed in the techexchange.com library at http://www.techexchange.com/thelibrary/sizeug09.html.
[TC]²’s participation in or co-sponsorship of a number of industry events including the INTERMODA Fashion Expo in Guadalajara, Mexico; The Apparel Sourcing Show in Guatemala; Colombiatex and Colombia Moda in Medellin, Colombia; Peru MODA and Expo Textil in Peru; IFAI 2009 in San Diego; Material World in Los Angeles; MAGIC in Las Vegas; IAF World Apparel Convention in India; and the Apparel Tech Conference in the Spring at FIDM in Los Angeles and in the Fall at FIT in New York. [TC]² nominated Spoonflower, Inc. as an All-Star nominee for 2009.
[TC]² Senior staff members providing consulting services for new member and start-up company Samara Innovations. The Connecticut company is launching a new high-tech garment that will be manufactured with features that have required pioneering development that pushed the limits of manufacturing processes.
[TC]² helping companies improve their overall business performance by providing training and operations consulting, primarily focused on the implementation of lean business practices in product development and manufacturing. Projects for U.S.-based companies include: Teamwork Athletic Apparel, UNICOR, Soma Intimates, Karla Colletto Swimwear, Anovotek, and Gerson & Gerson.
[TC]² continuing to provide implementation support for New Generation Computing’s PLM and Sourcing Management software solutions. This support includes project management, process analysis, and software training for the following NGC customers: Jockey International, RG Barry, Sanmar, oobe, and Marmac/DuPont. [TC]² is also working with Centric, Lawson, Siemens, and TEXbase to provide similar services.
[TC]² working with international clients to improve the efficiency of the U.S. supply chain, including: ADEX, CI Expofaro, Cotton Council International, Fabrilmalla, Esquel, Manchester University, and Texin. These clients represent the following countries: Colombia, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Thailand, and United Kingdom.
Strengthening [TC]²’s international consulting services, [TC]² is partnering with CHF International, a humanitarian aid organization that assists develop countries, to create the Haiti Apparel Center in Port au Prince. Funding is being supplied through the USAID organization. The center is scheduled to open in early 2010.
Yuhan Kimberly updating [TC]²’s technology demonstration of nano colorant textile inks with the installation of its Ujet MC3 - Premium system.
The InkDrop Printing digital print service filling over 161 orders to date for artists and museums.
Hosting over nine hundred individuals for tours and meetings this year. A recent October visit included several representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce, including Kim Glas, the new Deputy Assistant Secretary, as well as representatives from Congressman David Price’s Office and the National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO). Frank Hugelmeyer, President and CEO of the Outdoor Industry Association, was a presenter at the Fall Board of Directors Meeting.
Launching new investigations and initiatives focusing on sustainability and practicing social responsibility by reducing waste, using more recyclable materials, and reducing energy consumption.
Creating a new seminar on product development. The technical design program provides an introductory overview of basic technical design concepts.
Techexchange.com continuing to provide technology news and articles of interest to the industry. It is read in 144 countries around the world, and the web site has over 20,000 visits monthly.
Launching a new tc2.com web site which was developed with in-house expertise. The new site is more user-friendly with easier navigation.
[TC]²’s newsletter, The Technology Communicator, keeping subscribers informed regarding emerging technologies and industry events. In 2009, the newsletter will become a monthly publication, with interim articles on timely industry topics.
We hope that your year included many noteworthy achievements, also. And, as we enter into this holiday season, let us hope that 2010 will be the year for peaceful resolution of world conflicts, a stronger economy, and a better quality of life for everyone.
